Since the Packaging survey isn’t live yet, we wanted to give you the opportunity to review the questions in advance so you can prepare. Screenshots of the survey are below.
Packaging Survey Overview
The Packaging survey is only for suppliers of Private Brand products to Walmart Inc., which includes suppliers of Private Brand products to any banner (e.g. Asda, Sam’s Club, or Seiyu) in any global retail market where Walmart Inc. does business. If you sell a product in packaging that went home with the customer (i.e., primary packaging) you should plan to complete this survey for each retail market where you do business with Walmart Inc. or one of its banners. All private brand suppliers are asked to report progress.
The opportunity to report for the 2019 reporting cycle will begin October 7th and end November 15th, 2019 in your Sustainability Portal Account (visit the WalmartSustainabilityHub.com to sign in). You are expected to report 12 months of recent data as part of the survey, and the recommended time frame we’d like you to report data for is October 1, 2018 – September 30, 2019.

Walmart’s Ask: In accordance with our global goal to achieve 100% recyclable, reusable, or industrial compostable private brand packaging by 2025, we ask our global private brand suppliers of products in packaging that went home with the customer (i.e., primary packaging) to:
Refer to the Walmart Recycling Playbook: Designed for companies setting recyclable packaging and recycled content goals, this document is designed to capture recyclability information based on existing infrastructure. This document also provides perspective on feasible recycled content levels based on current industry practice. The document is presented by packaging format (i.e., PET bottle, HDPE bottle, etc) and is focused on the most common packaging formats found in Walmart US and Canada stores.
Ensure all compostable claims are supported with appropriate substantiation, including testing where appropriate, and meet all applicable government requirements. Work to increase the use of post-consumer recycled content in plastic packaging where feasible.
Maintain (and make available upon request) comprehensive records about the (1) types of packaging used (e.g., box, bottle) and (2) its associated volume of packaging material (e.g., PET, HDPE, fiber), used in Walmart private brand primary packaging, as well as (3) any post-consumer recycled content or bio-based content used for each packaging type/format, and (4) compostability certification status (if applicable) for each packaging type/format.
